If you’re like me, you absolutely love eggplant. It’s such a versatile plant, and you can cook it in a number of ways that all taste great. But did you know this big and bulbous object is actually classified as a fruit, despite its not-so-sweet insides?
Because of its sugar content and chemical makeup, it is labeled as a fruit. That’s not a big deal, but it’ll actually help you hit your daily fruit intake. Plus, since it’s so healthy for you, you can almost kill two birds with one stone and fulfill your vegetable requirement. Whatever you’re reasoning, nobody will bother you about eating such a health fruit.
Here’s why eggplant is one of the world’s best and healthiest foods, and why you should eat it even if you hate it:
#1 – Low in Calories
Eggplant is a very filling fruit, and it’s because of the fluffy, almost carb-like interior. This stuff is so fluffy and awesome that it’ll spread out in your stomach, making you feel full. On top of that, you won’t even be eating that many calories when you’re eating eggplant.
Of course, most of your calories will come from the breadcrumbs, sauce, and chees that most people put on top of it when they’re eating it in its parm variant. But that still doesn’t exclude it from the low-calories sector.
#2 – Contains Nasunin
Looks like a weird word, right? That’s because it is! But this power antioxidant is only found in eggplant and similar species of it, and it has been known to fight the effects of long-term memory damage, short-term memory damage, and help keep your brain healthy.
If that’s not enough to make you want to it eat it every once in a while, I don’t know what will help.
#3 – High in Dietary Fiber
Eggplant is really high in dietary fiber, and you’ll get roughly 10% of your daily value in just one serving of this stuff. That’s a lot!
Dietary fiber makes the world go round, or at least your lower half anyway. Fiber helps keep you regular, and stave off the effects of getting clogged up by bad food that you shouldn’t be eating in the first place.
If you go to the bathroom once per week or less, or even just a couple of times per week, you don’t have enough fiber in your diet. Eating eggplant will help you stay regular and healthy.
